TPC Accellerator 2
Inmarsat is planning to launch version 2 of its TCP Accelerator software at the end of November 2009.
TCP Accelerator v2 is an upgrade to the current version of TCP Accelerator v1, designed to enhance the performance of applications that use TCP (transmission control protocol).
TCP Accelerator v2 will deliver faster transfers of electronic files to and from BGAN User Terminals. Improvements will vary depending on the type of files sent. However, TCP Accelerator v2 is proven to enhance the throughput performance of compressible files, resulting in faster transfer times.
As with TCP Accelerator v1, a network version of this application will be installed on the BGAN network by upgrading the existing TCP Accelerator servers. In addition, end-users will need to install the client version of the software in order to gain the full benefit.
Distribution Partners and end-users are not required to modify their network. Inmarsat will be activating the new service for all APNs and will work with DPs to ensure there is no impact on our broadband services in the run-up to the end of November. TCP Accelerator v2 has been tested extensively on the Inmarsat shared infrastructure using common applications. No issues have been found. We will continue with a test campaign to ensure applications and services remain unaffected.
TCP Accelerator v2 will be available for download from the Support section of the Inmarsat website (www.inmarsat.com/support) for both Land Mobile (including Land Vehicular) and FleetBroadband user terminals. It will also available for download from the LaunchPad update server, accessible via both the BGAN and FleetBroadband LaunchPad.
Inmarsat will send a follow-up notification two weeks before the activation date to confirm service release.
